New Super Mario Bros. 2 This Summer

via The Play Forum (cause I write there also):

screen-shot

Last week’s Nintendo news was dominated by the company’s first ever, annual loss (around $530 million). But don’t worry about Nintendo because Mario and the gang are going to be just fine. In fact, Mario already has a new game on the horizon with New Super Mario Bros. 2 arriving this August.

This new side-scrolling Mario adventure for Nintendo 3DS is a sequel to New Super Mario Bros DS that was released in 2006. There was also a New Super Mario Bros Wii game released in 2009 but as of now, we don’t know if there will also be a sequel for that game. I’d imagine, with all the talk of Nintendo’s Wii U, the successor to Wii, we won’t be seeing that sequel any time soon.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be a traditional, side-scrolling adventure game starring Mario, Luigi and, according to the Nintendo press release, “loads of other favorite characters from the popular Mario series”.  The game has been designed as a pick-up-and-play game that should be highly enjoyable by Mario fans of all ages and skill levels.

You can bet that I’ll do everything I can to get my hands on this game and review it for you as soon as possible.

New 3D Music Videos on Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo Video, the video viewing app on the 3DS, is getting some new 3D music videos and users can get them for free.

Today’s 3D video is for The Shins’ “The Rifle’s Spiral”. Directed by Emmy winner Jamie Caliri, the video is from the band’s new album, titled Port of Morrow, which is in stores now.

There are also two non 3D videos arriving, “Sabotage” from Wale and “So Good” from B.o.B. Additional 3D music videos will be arriving soon and include:

OK Go, “Skyscrapers”

Skrillex, “Breakn’ a Sweat”

Death Cab for Cutie, “Underneath The Sycamore”

I Fight Dragons, “Save World Get Girl”

All videos are free and should automatically be added to your 3DS if you have the Nintendo Video app and are connected to the internet.

Super Mario Bros. 3D Confirmed

One of the most exciting things I saw at e3 last year was the Nintendo 3DS, which arrives this March. Recently, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, confirmed that he is working on a 3D version of Super Mario Bros for the 3DS. The announcement was made during an interview discussing Mario’s 25th anniversary.

In case you don’t know what the 3DS is, it’s a 3D handheld game system that doesn’t require glasses to work. I saw it in person and it really is amazing.

Shake It Up Baby!

The new Nintendo Wario game is in stores now and there is a great ad for it on YouTube.

At first I thought this was going to be a typical video game ad–show game, play sounds and music, make us want it. However, shortly into the ad something very odd started happening to YouTube. I thought the rubber bands and duct tape holding the Internet together was finally starting to crack so you can imagine my relief when I realized it was intentional. I don’t want to ruin the surprise so I’ll let you check it out for yourself here.

Wario Land: Shake It is in stores now and judging by the early buzz, it’s a blast to play!
