Paladino Makes Anti-gay Remarks Then Blames Jews for His Remarks

Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino told Orthodox Jewish leaders he doesn’t want children “brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality” is acceptable.

“I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family,” said Paladino. His prepared remarks included this line: “I don’t want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option–it isn’t. There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual. That is not how God created us,” which turned into this: “That’s not how God created us and that’s not the example that we should be showing our children.”

Paladino’s Democratic opponent, Andrew Cuomo, seized on the remarks, which he called a display of “stunning homophobia and a glaring disregard for basic equality.” He went on, “These comments along with other views he has espoused make it clear that he is way out of the mainstream and unfit to represent New York.”

Paladino, sensing the gravity of his mistake, claimed later that he didn’t approve of all his comments, which, he said were suggested by the “hosts at the synagogue,”.

Mean Spirited Morning: The Government

There were a lot of things this past week that got my goat but rather than getting even, I’m getting Mean Spirited. Won’t you join me?

This week, The Government!

government

When was the last time our government (both local and federal) did anything that actually benefited you or me? These days, it’s all bailouts and bullshit but even before the mess we are now in (thanks in part to government deregulation), I can’t recall a single example of government working well. Please allow me to illustrate my rant, I live on a dirt road, half of which is unusable during the winter because it goes through seasonal and daily erosion. Our one and only source of accessing the internet is so unreliable that I have to take full advantage of times when it is working (now) because there is no telling when it will go down again. We have no way of receiving hi-definition cable at our house and the basic cable we do receive provides a snowy, craptastic picture most of the time. Only one of the cell phone companies provides coverage for us and even that is never more than two bars.

I realize these complaints sound petty (and yes, they are more about convenience than anything else) but I live roughly 2.5 hours north of NYC and the same distance west of Boston and if these are the issues we have to deal with here, what are people who truly live in the middle of nowhere doing?

It’s time for our elected officials to stop wasting our time and money with nonsense and publicity stunts, and focus on things they can really affect – like broadband internet access for anyone in the country who wants it.

Mean Spirited Morning: AIG

There were a lot of things this past week that pissed me off but rather than getting even, I’m getting Mean Spirited. Won’t you join me?

Without a doubt, the subject most deserving of our ire this week was the AIG executives who saw fit to award themselves $165 million in bonuses despite running the company into the ground and requiring our tax dollars to stay afloat. These people don’t deserve bonuses they should be fired!

Maybe we should take a tip from the French. Last week workers at a Sony manufacturing plant in France held Sony president, Serge Foucher, hostage for a night to show their dissatisfaction with their severance packages.

So this week’s Mean Spirited Morning is the AIG Executives.

Dead Or Alive? Public Protests

The gist of this post is so simple and obvious that I would be surprised if someone else isn’t already doing it. However, after doing nothing at all an extensive online search, I couldn’t find anyone else who cares what you think.

The rules are simple, I post a picture and ask the question, Dead or Alive? then you answer with your comments.

This week, the Effectiveness Of Public Protests. Protests of CA’s Proposition 8 have been organized for tomorrow around the country*. People will gather at their city halls at the same time to protest the passing of proposition 8 but will it do any good?
