Survivor Finale Recap

Last night was Survivor’s final episode and Live Reunion Show or as I like to call it, the painted ladies parade. First, the final episode. The bamboo shoot that served as a bed for Jesus Jones on Redemption Island was getting crowded as four people were now exiled to the island. Jesus Jones, Army Pete, The Dreadlocked NFL Dude and Andrea. The Fartastic Four were summoned to their final duel, which would decide who the one person to rejoin the game would be. It was one of those tense, balancing acts and for the first time, I was sort of rooting for Jesus Jones because after spending nearly one month on Redemption Island, he truly deserved to reenter the game.

So Andrea shocked everyone by winning and then there was an overly sappy moment of sending the three guys to the jury room. Andrea reentered the game where she quickly lost the immunity challenge and was then sent off to the jury pool at tribal. That left us with the final four – Boston Rob, Phil “Don’t-Call-Me-Crazy” Sheppard, Professional Dancer Natalie and the girl who is obsessed with arm pits – Ashley.

The four had another immunity challenge where Rob won and secured his spot in the final three where he would have to beg the jury for money. Arm-Pits Ashley was blindsided at tribal and became the final member of the jury.

The final three were rewarded with a champagne beach brunch and then Phil “Don’t-Call-Me-Crazy” Sheppard ceremoniously burned his pink panties and fashioned himself a fairly impressive Native American ensemble to wear to the final tribal where the three players would beg for money. At the beggar’s ball,  the jury was filled with anger and spent most of their time telling off Natalie and Phil. Phil didn’t seem to understand the beggar/beggie system and yelled at several jury members further cementing his loss. The votes were cast and it was time to time warp to the live reunion show in NYC.

So we get to the live portion of the evening and it was really no surprise who received most of the jury’s votes. Boston Rob won Survivor and he deserved it for playing an amazing game. He dominated the physical challenges, masterminded the plans that put him in the final three and was a top-notch participant in life at camp.

The rest of the reunion show was ok. One of the jury members proposed to his girlfriend in the audience who had been a Survivor cast member on a previous season. The proposal was awkward and her reaction was even worse – she didn’t look like she wanted to say yes but it was on live TV so she sort of had to accept. There were the standard questions to the whole gang and then it was all over…until the next season, which will take us to some shitty island in the South Pacific this fall. I can’t wait!!

I Love Local News Shows

Overheard the following Thor conversation this morning on my local (Albany) news:

News Lady: “I don’t get this Thor thing”.

News Guy: “He is the god of thunder and used to be one of the big Marvel characters with Spider-Man and Captain America”.

Weather Guy: “Was he made out of rocks”?

At that point you could see the look of extreme disappointment in News Guy’s eyes.
