I’ve been watching Lost since the beginning and was thrilled for the final season to start last night. I’m thrilled because this show has been like a bad book or movie that I’ve committed enough time to that I have to see how it ends. Lost began with a bang and it’s first season was a wild ride of twists, revelations, mysteries and monsters. Unfortunately, during season two, it started to look like the show’s creators and writers were not prepared for the show’s immense success or ABC’s renewal order for an ongoing series. The show started to flounder but I kept with it. Season three staggered on and there were times when I would have several weeks worth of episodes clogging up my DVR until I reluctantly watched them. But then something happened midway through Season four, the show got good again! Maybe it was the announcement during this season that the show would end after the sixth season, which gave the writers renewed goals and directives. Whatever the spark was that reignited the creative flame, it continued to burn through season five and now, at last, we have made it to season six, the final season.
(Possible Spoilers ahead)
Last night’s two hour season premier was good. Not great but good. The show finally ditched the time-traveling premise and replaced it with an alternate reality/parallel universe story line (that’s my take and I haven’t confirmed that with anyone else) that looks as if it’s going to be as interesting as the current time-line story that started with the first episode of season one. The main story-line picked up immediately where the last season ended and neatly tied-up last season’s finale cliff hangers. We were finally told what the Black Smoke creature is (sort of) and saw what might be the source of the Island’s healing powers. All in all, the last season is off to a good start and I’m looking forward to the show’s end with excitement and relief.
ABC is promising the show will end with a shocking finale and I’ll be there on the edge of my seat watching. What about you?
Totally.
I agree, last night was pretty good, not awesome. The parallel universe thing was grating on me a bit – I don’t know if I can take it all season long.
I’m hoping I will be able to piece everything together, or at least the writers will do it for me because I can’t remember all of the twists and turns since there have been so many!
Kitty – I like the parallel universe story but I’ve always been a sucker for the String Theory.
Sam – Lost shows more recap episodes than new episodes so just catch one of them.
I really enjoyed last night’s episode too. I watched all of the first two seasons, and then only caught occasional episodes and was lost for awhile. The recap episode last night really refreshed my memory and reviewed what I missed, at least enough. Now I can’t wait to see the rest of the season. I agree with Kitty, the parallel universe is OK for now but I hope it doesn’t continue all season (although I suspect it will).
I am a Lost addict. Recently watched all the previous 5 season back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back in prep for this final season. I’ve been onboard since episode one, and haven’t regretted the ride yet. Weak episodes? Yeah, there’s a few, but overall, such a great series I’m willing to forgive the lesser moments.
I wonder what kind of withdrawals I’ll go through when it comes to an end in May… I guess nothing a little Dharma Beer couldn’t cure, eh? heh heh heh
