There where will be no Transformers and Enrique Iglesias this week because last night, I saw the new Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen, and I’ve got a few things to say about it.
I have to say that overall I really enjoyed the movie. Its the perfect Summer blockbuster with over-the-top action, a never-ending torrent of explosions, amazing special effects and stunning visual images and settings. On the bad side, the plot and story line are forgettable, the dialogue is laughable and the cliches are as endless as the explosions.
I can deal with those negatives because they are also a staple of the typical Summer flick. What I can’t deal with is how lame Michale Bay made the Transformers themselves. With the exception of a few of the robots, such as Optimus Prime, Ironside, Star Scream and, to a lesser degree, Megatron, most of the robots were given ridiculously Disneyesque characterizations that were absolutely painful to watch. I’m not going to go into specifics here because I don’t want to influence anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. If you have seen the movie you know which characters I’m talking about.
Would I recommend this movie? Yes. As I said, it’s a fun, Summer flick and nobody goes into a Michale Bay movie expecting Shakespeare. However, if for some bizar reason, you can only see one Summer blockbuster this year and you haven’t already done so – go see Star Trek.
As it so happens, I am going to a “Mommy and me” movie this morning with the baby. Transformers is one of the options, but I think I am going to opt for Year One, just to see how she does in the theatre and if it freaks her out. If shes cool, we’ll do Transformers next week.
Did they bring back the brainy teenage blonde who’s part of a government think tank? I hated her most in the first movie.
What is a Mommy and Me movie? I would think that the loud noises in Transformers would scare babies but what do I know?
No, the brainy blond is not in this one. They opted for a new sexier blond this time around.
I was wondering how you were going to react, since it got some of the most scathing reviews of the year.
Unbearable – I haven’t heard any of the reviews but I can imagine they aren’t good.
Kudos on the mention about Star Trek. I highly agree with that senitment. If anyone hasn’t seen it yet, and as Jeff said, you only can pick ONE summer film to see, Star Trek is it.
I’m liking the blog Jeff and I went ahead and linked you on my own. Looking forward to future posts.

Ewwww. ewwww, I say. The movie was only a notch above Mamma Mia.
And if Pierce Brosnan had voiced and sung for one of the transformers…..
Thanks Bryan. What is your blog address? There’s no link to it from your comment.
