*UPDATE* Since publishing this post on March 16, 2009, the question of Andrew Koenig’s whereabouts has been answered. Unfortunately, he is dead from an apparent suicide on February 26, 2010.
The gist of this post is so simple and obvious that I would be surprised if someone else isn’t already doing it. However, after doing nothing at all an extensive online search, I couldn’t find anyone else who cares what you think. Dead or Alive is a regular post that asks if you know where the people and objects from our pasts are today. I think of it as a tribute because it means at one time, these people asked did something so monumental that we are still talking about them today.
Each week I post a picture and ask the question, Dead or Alive? then you answer with your comments.
This week, Andrew Koenig (Boner from Growing Pains).

So, what do you think? Dead or Alive?
fine print: Most of the people on Dead Or Alive? are not actually dead but there careers may be. Dead Or Alive? is my version of “where are they now”, except sometimes they might be six feet under and other times they are judging chili eating contests at State Fairs.
Alive and completely anonymous. And poor.
he’s alive and on Jimmy Pardo’s “never not funny” podcast
He’s alive, and Uncle Walter’s so disappointed in him.
How poor could he be? He is likely still getting checks from Growing Pains as it is still in reruns…but even if not. His Dad is Chekov (yeah Walter is his Dad not Uncle.)
He’s missing from Vancouver, since Feb 14, 2010.
Yeah this is fucked up, you should probably take this post down.
Uh, he is probably dead. He as been missing for a while.
First, probably dead. Second, while this was probably humorous when first posted, I think now it may be time to take it down. You know, have a little respect for his family, like you would want if a loved one of yours was missing….
Gee, I hope it wasn’t something like this that pushed a despondent man to something horrific. Could this be considered harassment? Because that would violate WordPress. com’s terms of service or something. Dude, you should take this down before WordPress does or someone tries to sue you.
I had no idea that Andrew Koenig was suddenly in the news again until I started getting recent comments on this old post. As you can see from the date, this post was originally published almost a year ago (March 16, 2009).
Several weeks before Brittany Murphy died from a combination of anemia, pneumonia and unsupervised use of medications, Saturday Night Live chose to satirize Murphy’s firing from a feature film, although the event did not make entertainment news headlines and the actress had not been in the public eye (like Andrew Koenig) in many months. SNL, NBC and Hulu pulled the skit that seemed in ‘poor taste’ and disrespectful after Murphy’s death.
Your blog post was in poor taste a year ago; now, it is blatantly callous. Becoming the public butt of the joke may come with the territory for people whose avocations or vocations thrust them from the private lives most of us lead, but that does not mean that writers and reviewers whose occupations or preoccupations fuel the public forums that chronicle the celebrated and the notorious must do so unkindly. Meanness is not a virtue.
Poor taste about someone’s acting career or lack thereof? Are you effing kidding me? No one complained when this was first written. Millions of “Where are they now?” are on the Internet and entire shows on TV as well and not one report of “So and So left a suicide note blaming a blog’s question about “where are they now?” as the reason why they committed suicide, or disappeared for whatever reason. We have no idea what has happened to him, but I bet it has NOTHING to do with this blog question from last year.
And how does Brittany Murphy have anything to do with this?? This blog is NOT NBC or any of the other named companies, millions are not reading it (sorry, man, hope that isn’t a sore spot, lol) and only the 5 people here who are complaining and making an issue where there is none give a damn this is posted. There is nothing wrong with this, it shouldn’t be taken down just because YOU think it is wrong, this is America and we have free speech and the choice to post a simple comment on someone’s lack of career so get off your moral high horses and find something better to do besides tell others what they should and shouldn’t post on THEIR website. Get your own and be holier-than-thou, will you, please?
Hey Jinni – Thanks! I’ve been trying to figure out how to address the people that think I should remove this post but every time I began a response, I started to laugh. I don’t want to offend anyone but my blog is a random collection of fart jokes, drinking stories and pictures of Transformers that mainly appeal to my friends and a small group of regular readers.
Dead or Alive is a regular post I do asking if anyone knows where these people and objects from our pasts are. I think of it as a tribute because it means at one time, the people asked about, did something so monumental that I’m still talking about them now.
My best friend was missing all last week. The police found him dead on Saturday night. This is sad.
this man did continue acting, directing and writing through 2010. one of his films is in post production right now!
do your research dumbass douches.
if he was dead they would have found him already, it’s just how that works. he’s probably in europa or in canada hidding. either way, i feel awefull about this. i know he was sad n stuff, he’s probably regrouping somewhere. people who are depressed will dissapear for a while to kind of simulate their deaths and see if there is anybody who cares for them, i’ve done this before myself. he just needs to know that he is loved, and he is loved by everyone; even us total strangers love him, we wish for him to be okay and come back soon.
fuck all u candy ass people. if he’s dead sorry, if he’s alive great. but this post should not have any impact on the subject either way. its simply a discussion topic, christ u fucking people that need to be so politically correct, go fuck yourselves, please.
The police just found his body in Stanley Park. He’s dead.
This posting from March of last year is in VERY BAD TASTE – this poor fellow was depressed and maybe even googled his name and found this horrible blog entry – this is very very cruel and I hope to God he NEVER saw this blog!!! I hope his parents and loved ones never saw this blog.
Shame on this blog creator – actors and celebrities are people and they have to live in the same world as we do – people should have some respect!
yes, after an 11 day search they just discovered his body in Vancouver, they stopped Olympic coverage to show it. He is dead.
Someone take this down.
Jinni and Jeff,
The point of ” Alive or Dead” is only funny when an actor has not been heard of in years, but things have changed now, and you need to face that fact. I agree that people should be able to take a Joke, but with the recent press coverage, and the fact that this actor is in fact DEAD don’t you think this is terrible?
People are seeing his crying parents in the news, and according to his parents and the most current news he took his own life. He killed himself, which is terrible, so maybe taking this page down would be in good taste? Just a thought, because this isn’t a question anymore. He is dead.
Of course he’s not going to take it down. Jeff will get his 15 minutes just like Andrew did. Then he’ll fade away.
this blog stinks, man what is the world coming to?
My best friend of 24 years shot herself so I can speak from personal experience: THIS should NOT be taken down because it was said a YEAR AGO about him. Him choosing to take his own life was his choice. The owner of this site is NOT responsible and is NOT showing poor taste by leaving it up just because some of YOU think it is offensive. Yes, it is absolutely horrible and sad that he killed himself. But are you people seriously sooooo righteous that you think every comment EVER made about this guy on the Internet should be removed because he’s dead? Get over yourselves! Get off this guy’s back and instead of bitching at him to take this down, go show your sympathy to Andrew Koenig’s family! I’m truly agog at you folks. If you don’t like what is posted here, go somewhere else, it really is as simple as clicking away from this page, geez!
1. This post isnt so so obscure. It was only page three on my google search. So maybe the argument (of this blog being mostly between your close friends and a few regular readers) should be re-thought.
2. I now I have been struggling to get a regular job over the last two years and struggling with depression (and have no heath insurance for medication). An aquaintance told me maybe my career was over and that I should start over (I have a 4 year degree and 9 years experience). This single comment sent me into a depression for a week where I could not even leave the house. I cant imagine if it were just being discussed openly on the internet.
3. Honestly, the joke is MAYBE a 3 out of ten. “His name is Boner” was the best you could come up with for an inspiration spoof joke?
And I thought only Kirk Cameron’s preachiness could kill a boner.
No, that doesn’t really make sense, but BONER BONER BONER BONER.
You should take this down. This is really sad. People like you who spend their time making fun of other people during their hard times, cause this kind of heartache. This whole dead or alive celebrity stuff is completely sick. Who the hell are you anyway? All you have is this incredibly lame blog. Whoopdee-do.
Hey Bunny, I am really sorry for your situation. I hope things get better for you, and I hope your honesty can resonate with this Jeff person, and he will take this post DOWN!
ok i never post blogs and i kind of feel lame for doing it now. but honestly i googled his death because i saw it on tv and wanted to find out what happened and this was the third or founrth website it listed. Stop the bickering and take it down. delete it.
Jeff,
I was searching on Andrew after hearing he was found dead – this was one of the top 10 responses on Google. I hope his friends and family haven’t accidentally run into this. Sure, if might have been funny or a joke, but now circumstances have changed. If you have any decency, you will remove this post. If not, karma will take care of you at a later date.
I never post on blogs but I needed to I goggled Andrew and you sire was the first to come up so I agree with many others your site is far from a little site to make fart jokes with your friend and although I understand when you say you trying to do an internet version of “where are they now”and I understand that your “Boner” blog went up about a year ago but now that we know that the man is indeed dead I agree with most that you should at least take down this blog and maybe change the name from dead or alive to something a little more PC
Are you seriously thinking Jeff will get Karma for simply wondering about what this guy was doing in his career a year ago? Did ANY of you read his “disclaimer” at the very top he wrote? Here it is again, which completely covers any judgmental jerks such as “K” above:
“fine print: I realize most of the people on Dead Or Alive? are not actually dead but there careers sure appear to be. Dead Or Alive? is my version of “where are they now”, except sometimes they might be six feet under and other times they are judging chili eating contests at State Fairs.”
Andrew Koenig was NOT six feet under when this originally posted. Karma is not the least bit interested in Jeff for posting this. He called the man no names, said absolutely NOTHING negative about him then OR now, he merely wondered out loud if this guy was dead or just his career. You people are the ones who will get YOUR karma for trying to make another human being feel bad for NO reason. Again, he has done nothing wrong, he has said nothing wrong and all of you are the judgmental hateful jerks who will have to answer for your hateful comments to someone who merely writes a blog for his own reasons. He has the right to post whatever he wants. I would understand if he had been hateful, but he hasn’t. Only each of you screaming for Jeff’s head are the ones being hateful and will get Karma for it.
You are all going to hell for being so hateful to an innocent. Now I will go pray for all of you as well as Andrew and his family. You guys actually need much more prayer than his family does.
Jeff, I really hope you leave this as is. Please do not dare to bow down to those who think they have the right to tell others how to live their lives or BLOG, for crying out loud. It’s one man’s blog out of billions on the Internet so those of you complaining, find something better to do. Go make your own blogs and extoll your own virtuous living.
I think this post just accidentally tapped into some kind of prescient pop-culture art. A real sign o’ the times. I hope you keep it up.
Wow, thats all I have to say. America is going down hill…FAST.
Last I checked, bad taste is still legal…
Tell em to stick it up their ass Jeff…right up their ass like a rock hard boner.
RIP Andrew, you brought me entertainment as a child, I grew up watching you. You brought smiles.
This blog made me fart, way to go!
If the original poster of this had made the site AFTER the actor was found dead, THEN it would be in poor taste.
People who are commenting on it now shouting, “Oh, no! Take it down!” are the very ones giving it the negative attention that they are so afraid of.
Andrew chose to kill himself. No one else did that for him, and certainly not the original poster who made this a year before he even went missing.
Karma acts upon intentions and actions. The action of putting up this blog didn’t hurt anyone, and the intention wasn’t to mock someone’s death or drive someone to suicide. Andrew is responsible for his own actions. It’s sad, but he did do it to himself. Karma will have nothing to do with this.
People who yell at other people and put their noses in other peoples’ business are not going to hell. You don’t go to hell just for being nosy and bossy. Don’t say silly things like that.
To anyone else who wants to come along and post a comment shouting “Take this down!” Read the other comments. People have already said to take it down. The original poster has already made clear that he will not take it down. You, an anonymous stranger yelling at another stranger via the internet, are not going to change his mind. Trying to do so will only frustrate yourself and the people who disagree with you.
Now stop bickering, kiss and make up, or go to your separate corners and stop talking to each other.
The end.
I made the going to to hell comment because usually it’s seriously deranged church-goers who feel they have the right to police the Internet for “poor taste”. It was sarcasm in case you are referring to my comment. ;D
He’s DEAD, Jim.
His jaw dropped Feb. 25th, 2010.
RIP, Boner. Even Viagra can’t fix you now.
He’s Dead now…:( that’s sad…
Yeah…I would remove this post out of respect for the family.
It just makes sense… do the right thing…famous or not.
Jeff
You killed Andrew
great site buddy keep it going! the boner chose to go soft. too bad for all involved but keep this around to help others. lets not hide our heads in the sand!
I bet you didn’t see this coming.
I agree there should be atleast a rest in peace Boner. You will forever be remembered. This site gets too much attention to allow any of this sattire go unnoticed during a time of grief. Also, to the person who said to all looking to remove this to go “fuck ourselves”? Spoken as a true egotistical moron who has no passion or sympathy for anyone else unless it happens to him first. Becareful what you say it could hit you two fold! Ever hear of the monkey’s paw?
Leave the post up! The talk both caring and outrage are a nice reminder to the fact he lived…. How sad would it have been to lived and no one noticed.
You know, some people may complain, but the question posed a year ago is part of the popular culture that has sprung forth on the internet. While I think Jackass culture and the Tom Greens of America deserve a good spritz of pepper spray when they mess with people, I also think it would be a shame to whitewash over anything ‘unkind’ towards Andrew Koenig, because that erases what was going on in the lead-up to his demise. People in America were talking about him 20 years after the show. And sure, it was in a “where are they now”, but at the same time, it is significant that 20 years later he was still memorable enough that people would ask that.
May be if you just put a note up top expressing sympathy or making it clear that this is an old post? I know the dates are on the post but people might not necesarily see those if they are shocked. I’m not related to Andrew in any way but I was shocked when I came across this, it was one of the first few sites that popped up when I googled him. Of course you don’t have to do anything, but these are special circumstances (ones that of course you didn’t forsee) and it’s just nice to be considerate of others who may come across this unexpectedly. Tom Green is Canadian by the way. He’s from the Ottawa area…you can keep him though!:)
Maybe making this a memorial would be better than lambasting one another. A man did choose to take his life. He is gone. He was a human being with more to his name than Boner.
Depression is a serious disease or condition. Check out NAMI and educate yourself. 20% of those diagnosed with this disease die. By their own hand.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Andrew Koenig. He entertained us in the limelight for a while. He added to our entertainment behind the scenes for most of his life.
The resulting answer to the original question is “he’s passed.” May he rest in the peace that alluded him in this life.
Let me clarify. The readers and those posting can make this a memorial page. Jeff isn’t required to respond in any way.
Dead or Alive? Dead as of yesterday, 02/25/2010.
Leave it up. Boner, we salute you!
Phrases like “My heart goes out to the family and friends of Andrew Koenig” make me laugh Does your heart go out to the hundreds of thousands of other people who die every day? You’re just latching on to the latest celebrity-type drama in an effort to feel something beyond your own pathetic life, and you’re doing it online, which is even more laughable.
This is a humor blog and it was written a year ago in good taste. Taking offense to it is ridiculous and inferring that the guy read it and then killed himself because of it is insane. You people need to go outside and get some sun. Maybe make some real friends.
P.S. If I’m “going to hell for being so hateful to an innocent” then I guess it doesn’t matter if I tell the rest of you to go kill yourselves.
Kisses! -T-
Hey haters, please keep commenting so this blog post will stay on the top of the Googles. I for one, am very amused and impressed by Jeff’s ability to predict the future as well as his power to inflict depression and drive people to suicide.
I had no idea you had it in you! Good job!
Maybe you should use your power for good? For example, future “Dead or Alive” posts could be about Sarah Palin, Tilikum the Whale, or Andy Dick.
Let me know if you want to do some brainstorming bud. keep up the good work.
all you people have nothing better to do?
I say leave it up Jeff and all the anysayers should quit the BS pseudo-sentimental or philosophical nonsense! There are WAAAAAAAAAAAAY bigger issues to deal with! It was funny a year ago, it’s funny today. Darwinism at work…
POWER TO THE PEOPLE! FREEDOM OF SPEECH!
Fellow travelers,
I have two comments.
First of all, Andrew Koenig did not have to die. He should have embraced his role as Boner and gone into
porno/politics, sold Boner t-shirts, been the official spokesman for Viagra (instead of Bob Dole or Sofia
Vergara), or become a hip-hop rappist. Think of the opportunities this guy had because everyone knew him as
Boner! It wasn’t like he played a character named Poopie Pants. Nobody wants poopie pants, but everyone
(with the possible exception of those funky lesbians) wants to either get or “get” a boner!
So the lesson is this: If you play a character named Boner in a semi-famous television comedy, be prepared to
want to kill yourself at various times during your life. Try eating healthy foods rich in vitamin R,
exercising regularly, volunteering at your local animal processing center, taking care of your spiritual and
interpersonal needs, and having lots of ritualistic sex. With proper planning, you can stay alive long enough
to die without killing yourself.
At the very least, Koenig should have suicided himself in a “Boner-ific” way like suffocating in a giant
condom or getting AIDS.
Secondly, where are all the rigor mortis/boner jokes? Cum on people!
Sincerely,
Thicke Boner
I hope that the lawsuit you are now go to face from WordPress and your impending murder trial don’t prevent you from bringing us the Fart jokes we so desperately look forward to each week.
Request: A farting Transformer!
Sincerely,
One of your loyal readers
Jeff, you are one crazy bizznitch.
Yup, he killed himself. ANYONE who thinks This blog had anything to do with it is nuts. Sticks and stones… Right?
People choose their own destiny. He chose his. Sad, but true.
People die every day. This blog serves as a statement that someone WAS thinking about him. I’d be happy that my boner lived on any way it could!!
Oh the Humanity!
First off, yes it’s sad he died and I’m sorry for his family’s loss. HOWEVER, I love this. These comments are making my Friday night. Jeff, you’ve made a name for yourself! Should we call you Dr. Kavorkian? Listen people, the only reason you found this site is because you Googled “Andrew Koenig”, you problaby didn’t even know who he was until you heard it on TMZ.
Keep the comments coming, I need something to do while I am snowed in this weekend.
he was found dead this morning. he killed himself and his father had to find him like that. now that we’ve determined most of you are assholes, take the post down.
HILFREAKINGLARIOUS, Jeff! This is by far the most entertaining bit of reading I’ve had in a long time. I agree with JDizzle, your powers to see into the future are AMAZING and I say let’s predict some more deaths whether they be fortunate or boner shrinkers. And yes, where are ALL the boner jokes? Come on people…life is what you make of it. Obviously Koenig didn’t make much of his. That’s life. A good friend said, since it’s so close to Easter maybe someone could throw two Viagra in his coffin, wait a couple days and see what rises…cheers buddy.
Pigs….you’re nothing but pigs.

Wow. These comments are something else. You can read my response in a new blog post here:

It is totally amazing that people are so cold. I am not surprised because we all know what this world is coming to…
can any of the people that wrote very inappropriate messages imagine what it would be like to have people like this write about you and your lives after you all pass on?? Probably not and if you are this inconsiderate then you will not care. Easy for you all but sad for the parents that raised you.
you know, they say its better to burn out than to fade away…………………..
Good post. Keep it up. “His name is Boner.”
